Senior Stretch & Strength Class

What is the Senior Stretch & Strength Class?

Age-related bone loss involves a gradual and progressive decline.  With increasing age, there is also a significant reduction in bone formation.  As a result of the aging process, the bone deteriorates in composition, structure and function, which predisposes to osteoporosis.  Bone is a dynamic organ that serves mechanical and homeostatic functions. It undergoes a continual self-regeneration process called remodeling. Remodeling removes old bone and replaces it with new bone.  Aging is associated with a decline in physical activity and mechanical loading.   Functional loading has been shown to improve bone mass and exercise training programs can prevent or reverse almost 1% of bone loss per year in both lumbar spine (LS) and femoral neck (FN) for both premenopausal and postmenopausal women.

We all know the dangers of Osteoporosis so let’s do something about it!  We are learning more and more about our bodies and how they function as we age.  Because of this increased knowledge, we now it is even more important to strength train as we get older as any other time in our lives.  Our strength training program for seniors includes safe and effective weight bearing exercises designed to aid the body’s ability to remodel (regenerate) our bones.  Strength training allows our bones to stay strong & flexible, which helps to keep us stabile.  A strong bone structure is not the only important avenue of the strength training for seniors though.  Our program also helps keep the soft tissues such as muscles, tendons, and ligaments strong, so they can support our bone structure.  In addition, we utilize a safe stretching program tailored to your abilities and limitations to keep those soft tissues flexible, so you can live your life doing the activities you love to do and doing them pain free!  As with all our programs this training is a Periodized program suited to the needs of our senior citizens.  Our clinic is a smaller, boutique style facility which allows us to provide a safe and comfortable environment for you to enjoy doing this strength and stretch program.  Don’t wait till tomorrow, stop by or give us a call today so we can tell you more and get you started!
